I was told hotmail is not secure

Reply:All emails are sent over clear text. So all emails can be read.





However, I'm not sure what headers are sent in the gmail messages. I don't think your IP will be in it, as it is GMail's client and server that is sending the message.





Alternatively, if you want to use your own client, and you want security, you can always use OpenPGP and encrypt all messages. The recipient will need to have the key though and the same software to un-encrypt.





Encryption is sort of easy, give your public key to people who send you stuff, have them encrypt the message using the public key, then when you receive it, you can un-encrypt using the private key.
